The short answer: TV app testing is a specialism with failure modes that don't exist on mobile or web. Remote-only navigation requires exhaustive D-pad testing. What Makes TV App Testing Different

D-Pad and Remote Navigation

TV apps have no touch input and no mouse. This creates a testing requirement that has no equivalent in mobile or web testing: every interactive element must be reachable and operable via D-pad navigation alone.

Platform-Specific: Samsung Tizen

Samsung's Tizen platform also runs a web application environment but with different memory constraints, API availability, and certification requirements.

Tizen TV Web API differences: Samsung's Tizen APIs differ from LG's in important ways — particularly for DRM (Widevine vs PlayReady integration), playback control, and system-level APIs. Apps built for webOS require platform-specific code paths for Tizen.

Samsung remote button mapping: Samsung remotes have evolved significantly across Tizen versions. Test button mapping explicitly — the coloured buttons (A, B, C, D) have different default behaviours across Tizen 4.x through 7.x, and apps that rely on these buttons must handle version differences.

Samsung Seller Portal submission: Samsung's app submission process includes both automated checks and manual review.
